With car insurance companies you have two main sources that you can base your decision on as to whether you are going to purchase a policy with a company; the company's own advertising or through car insurance reviews. Reviews offer a more unbiased view of your potential new insurance provider as they are provided by a person outside of the insurance company.
Word of mouth advertising is just as important to an insurance company as formal advertising is. This type of advertising is just what it sounds like; it is when you hear about a person's experience with a particular insurance company from their own mouths. Depending on a person's experience with the company, they are likely to tell seven times more people about a bad experience than they are about a good experience so word of mouth advertising can be either a positive thing for an insurance company or a damaging one.
An organized and somewhat formal form of word of mouth advertising is the car insurance review. These reviews are written by people that have had experience with the insurance company and should be unbiased in their presentations. If you are looking to find out what a car insurance company is really like these car insurance reviews can give you a good idea as to what you are in for.
Trust A Review That Is Unbiased
A car insurance review should be written from the view point of being able to see the insurance company as a whole and it should point out the good parts of the company as well as any downfalls that the company may have. A car insurance review that is written with nothing but good things to say or nothing but bad things are generally not written from an unbiased point of view. This is not to say that it is not an accurate reflection of the company, but in business there is always room for improvement with every company.
Trust Multiple Reviews
Seeking out multiple reviews for the same company will give you the best idea of how a company functions and treats it clients. While a single review may be unbiased and have everything present for a good review, it is still just a single person's point of view. Multiple reviews will give you a chance to determine if there is a pattern of a company not being fair in their claim payments or if they have excellent customer service in their call centers. If you can see the same pattern in multiple reviews, then you know that the company's business behavior is not just being misinterpreted by a single person, but is something that is being experienced by multiple people.
Do Not Trust Reviews Sponsored By The Insurance Company
If there is any indication on the insurance review that it is sponsored by the insurance company directly, do not trust it. The person or company hosting the advertising and the review is going to present that insurance company in the best light possible to keep on good terms with the company so that they can continue to collect the advertising money. However, if the site that is hosting the car insurance review sells space on their site to third party advertiser like Google they have no control over what advertising is placed on their site. You will be able to tell by the way that the advertising is set up as to who is selling the advertising.
Do Not Trust Reviews That Are Overly Negative
Car insurance reviews that are extremely negative should be passed over all together. These reviews are usually written by a former customer that has had a very bad experience with the insurance company that was not resolved to their liking or is a former and upset employee. As a form of vengeance, they write these bad reviews to dissuade potential clients of these insurance companies from writing with them and hurting that company where it hurts the most, in their bottom line.
Going back to reading multiple reviews to form a solid opinion, if you find that in multiple insurance reviews that the same negative actions by the insurance company have happened to multiple people, then this is a company that you may want to stay away from.
